You don’t see Inspired by Thunder coming. Just when you think you’ve settled into an electronic track, the tabla cuts through and shifts the entire atmosphere. It is not a background flourish or a stylistic nod. It immediately changes the texture of the song and forces you to listen differently. That first rhythmic pattern sets the tone for everything that follows.
Fusion has always been about dialogue rather than decoration. When done poorly, traditional instruments feel layered on for effect. Here, the tabla is structural. The tabla holds its pattern steady, almost like it’s drawing a circle the rest of the track refuses to step outside of. Around that loop, the electronics start to move. Synth lines bend, swell, then pull back. Because the rhythm underneath doesn’t change, everything layered on top feels freer to experiment. It’s a simple idea, but it works. The grounded percussion keeps the track from drifting too far, even when the textures start to feel expansive.
When the electronic drums come in, the energy shifts. The track doesn’t explode, it thickens. There’s more weight in the low end, more pulse pushing it forward. Still, the tabla keeps tapping out its original cycle, steady and unmoved. That contrast is where the tension sits. One part of the song repeats with discipline, while the other keeps evolving. You feel both at once.
Insanitii Exact, the project helmed by Oliver Gilbert, clearly isn’t interested in staying in one lane. The approach leans toward experimentation, not for shock value, but to see how far different sounds can stretch together without snapping. As a DJ, composer, author and lyricist, his approach leans toward construction rather than convention. Inspired by Thunder reflects that mindset. It does not stay within a single genre lane. It pushes at the edges of electronic music by introducing rhythmic traditions that carry their own history.
Experimental music at its best challenges expectation without losing coherence. This track does that by trusting rhythm as its foundation. The result feels bold without being random. Inspired by Thunder does not simply blend sounds. It stages a conversation between them and lets that exchange drive the momentum forward.
