Bloodlin3 is an independent music group that puts out music that can primarily be classified within the genre of rap. Their roots lie in El Paso, TX and Paducah KY and they are self-admittedly influenced by iconic rap acts like Eminem and Three 6 Mafia. The last two years has seen consistent and quality output from the group and their latest single “Situations” features fellow rapper and artist Buk of Pychodrama!

The track starts off with a light bass and whispery ambience filled with ad-libs. It sets up the atmosphere of the beginning of a sports match which the urgent instrumentation in the background only takes forward. The track makes liberal use of sound effects and I enjoyed the fact that the beat isn’t heavy enough to dominate the track. While the beat keeps the track rhythmic, it also ensures to create space to highlight the rapping by the artists.

The cadence chosen by Bloodlin3 is interesting and their flow is smooth right from the get go. The deep and layered voice is not manicured, which adds to the grunginess of the track. The single gets progressively complex in terms of its flow, ensuring that the listener does not get bored. Buk of Psychodrama’s flow is extremely refreshing and groovy, making his presence one of the highlights of the track for me!

The songwriting brings to light themes like hard work, perseverance and not quitting despite the doubters. I personally really enjoy when rappers step out of the prevalent lyrical themes of society and pleasure. Bloodlin3 deliver a long track filled with hardcore rap from start to finish.
