Proklaim is a solo music project by British-born, Namibia based rapper Birungi Alexander Kiremire. The artist’s muted social media presence stands in juxtaposition with the consistency with which he has been dropping singles since 2018. His new single “Babylon” is a track that stands out in his discography in terms of production, structure and the way he flows on it!
The sample chosen by Proklaim on Babylon is extremely unique, catchy and unlike any other sample he has chosen in the past. It has the perfect blend of vocals layered on top of very heavy bass. A sample can sometimes make or break a song, and it takes a skilled listener to choose a sample as good as this one! Proklaim puts out an energetic rap performance as always!
The bass is a prominent element on the single both on the clappy percussion as well as the background. It does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to adding groove to the track. I personally enjoyed the way the track played with pacing and matched up with Proklaim’s flow. We also witness some interesting echoed out ad-libs, one of them being “We Need Justice”!
The song writing has “Innovation, Dedication, Elevation” as its central theme. It addresses emerging victorious despite losses, wrestling with doubts before figuring it all out, placing actions over intentions and bringing a spark to the darkness.
The track’s unconventional song structure makes“Babylon” one of the most unique track on Proklaim’s discography. Make sure to check it out here:
