Monotronic is an indie band based in New York City that primarily work within the genre of electronic music. Formed by guitarist and producer Ramsey Elkholy, the band takes inspiration from his time in Asia and aims to display a variety of cultural influences. They have been releasing music since 2020 and have several singles and albums under their belt. Their latest single “Sun Song” explores regret over some colourful production!

The riff on the guitar that starts the track off and remains a prominent part throughout the single is easy to catch on to and acts as a hook to pull a listener in immediately. The effect used on strings make it sound like a subdued synth and the effect it creates is trippy; wavering between a sense of coherence and unintelligibility that is really enjoyable.

The lead vocalist has a deep and soothing voice and he manages to bring a sense of melancholy through his vocal performance. The chorus has very brash and colourful production that adds variety to the otherwise sombre track. This cheery section plays with energy levels and stands in juxtaposition to what is being said.

The songwriting through the lens of heartbreak, explores the fear of regret and a nostalgia for the past. Mourning the loss of a person and the overwhelming feelings of being stuck it can bring along are chronicled. The universal desire to escape these emotions by physically leaving the place and hoping the problems won’t follow you is explained with a deep sense of emotion.
