No one does cinematic soundscapes like Gianfranco Malorgio. The artist has such a complex, yet innate sense of sonic theatrics, fathoming, effortlessly, designs and dynamics that create storytelling experiences. There is no dimension that he doesn’t touch, be it light, shadow, chroma, depth, emotion, apathy, texture, rhythm ambivalence. Even the instrumentals are quite diverse, with elaborate tails of evocative characters. In his latest, ‘ZLT’, he crafts a concert of the classical and the contemporary, the folk and the electronica, the ambient and the proactive.

Opening with dramatic tones and textures, it is enlarged by synth resonance into a frame. A faint flute tone sets an expectation of idyllic serenity. But as it flows, it gains complex dimensions, a trickling darkness, a touch of tonal elasticity. It stretches with pinprick piano notes, electronic tides, and sharp freshness. At the pinnacle, it flows with a contemplative melancholy, fostered by quivering flutes, before it winks with velvet blues. And just like that, it keeps on; its tides mercurial but not turbulent, affecting but not enforcing. It’s just like watching a movie, or perhaps, the artist is uncovering layers of a single frame, of a single reality using sonic perspectives and stylistic variance. Listen Now!
