We know of movement being induced by the unity of music. But Kepa Lehtinen fathoms his sound in movement. The Finnish composer and theremin artist, uses gestures to guide music into being. If you’re privy to his compositions, you can’t help but wonder about his nuanced creative process and ideation. In his latest release, ‘Suru’ we see Kepa Lehtinen present a river of grief. The emotion is so deeply embedded into the melodies and manifests so honestly that the listener can’t help but resonate with it. Listen Now!
For the track, the artist uses two pitch lines. The lower plane, flat and infinite, captures the numbness of grieving. It flows uninterrupted through the soundscape. And above this soft sediment of grief, the high pitched plane forms, ebbing and flowing with shining textures. Its freshness tackles the more complex aspects of the emotion. As we follow its minute progressions, the mind wanders and contemplates what grief means to us.
The theremin is a mystifying instrument and its magic can be accessed only by the most perceptive and imaginative mind. It demands incredible presence of mind and stellar intuition. Kepa has mastered it, coming out with beautiful soundscapes that are being listened to all over the globe.
The track is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
