The Float, as the name suggests is a music project that is dedicated to discover and design melodies in a way that elevates the mind and mood. It is the brainchild of San-Diego based artist, Joseph Rocchio. With his tracks, he traces daily activities with song, in a way that liberates you. For example, in his latest album, ‘All That Much’, he explores the contours of oceanic expanses, flying a kite, fresh air, and even mundanity. Using contemplative weaves, he leads his listeners to a plane of meditation and thought. Taken from this album is ‘Monkey and Sweet Potato’.
The track is an ambient flow. Abstract lo-fi textures are matched with micro accents of human emotion. It is an acoustic-electronic hybrid that takes on a couple of genre profiles. It perhaps captures a frame of life as the artist lived it.
The buoyancy of the melodies and rising tonalities indicate towards amusing and fresh moments of observation. Owing to the title, it was probably inspired by something silly yet endearing. The ethereal synth base is gathered by the acoustics into mellow country flows. It phases beautifully into oriental folk midway, attaining a quaint sentimentality as it meanders to the climax.
The track is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
