Dive into this incredible genre-fusing groove from newcomers A VIOLET IN YOUTH, ‘Desert Roll’!

If you’re into intelligent, piercing alt rock, this gem of a find is right up your alley! The LA-based group, A VIOLET IN YOUTH (AVIY), led by guitarist and vocalist Daniella Lollie, creates a stunning sonic listening experience with ‘Desert Roll’, a track that hooks you with refreshingly original dream pop/rock arrangements.

We open in compelling fashion with building layers of drums, groovy basslines and dreamy dissonant guitar lines that spiral ever so unpredictably. Melancholic at one moment, swerving to euphoric the next. Perhaps its this very chaotic unraveling, built upon a solid instrumentation arrangement, that we find so fascinating.

As if reading our dazed, reflective minds in the moment, echoes a simple yet deep reflection, ‘It’s a lonely town, isn’t it?’ We circle through the reflection a few times, each time being taken through ever-shifting, almost cosmic, guitar-led arrangements. There isn’t a moment to rest or reflect in this brilliant, hypnotic sonic storm.

Until there is. Just at the two-minute mark, a quiet piano unfolds with grace, laden with emotion, before blending into the psychedelia of sound. Journeying onward, it blooms into a kaleidoscopic guitar dance. Escalating tension in tone and intensity and crescendo-ing to an amazing conclusion. Whew! What a journey.

AVIY are trailblazers in their own right, bravely traversing genres to create music that really, in their own words, “You’re supposed to listen to everything separately at the same time.” Make of that as you will.  Recorded and performed along with keyboardist Lisa Yan, drummer Amanda Erwin, and bassist Kelly Kuhn, ‘Desert Roll’ shines brighter with each listen!
