Ava Valianti preaches the blues she’s feeling in her excellent new pop rock single, ‘Sophomore Slump’!
This isin’t the first time we’ve come across this very talented American singer/songwriter and with each new release, she’s left us enamored with her sheer range, creativity, and versatility. What we really admire about this young rising pop star is how she’s able to tune into her authentic persona and transmute that into song.
This time, ‘Sophomore Slump’ has her exploring that precarious space for any artist. A sense of vulnerability and frustration when one experiences even the slightest hint of stagnation or ‘slump’. Delivered with razor-sharp wit, humor, and effortless charm, this is a track to lounge around and express yourself to.
The track opens with moody, spacious & reflective pop rock arrangements, drawing you into Ava’s compelling narrative verse. She starts with making some no-nonsense, yet whimsical, observations about how life’s been treating her recently. The weather, missed opportunities, and painful dentist trips all feature prominently in his smart, evocative prose. Her vocal tone is confident, humorous, and effortless; its really a marvel to listen to her subtle change in vocal tone and intensity.
The chorus launches us into a catchy, bluesy pop rock section, with her singing confessionally, ‘Im in a sophomore slump of epic proportions, Everything & nothing feels so important.’ The lyrics, witty and catchy, emphasize the depth of emotion while the instrumentation does full justice to her narrative.
The production on this track is excellent, holding an intricate balance between pop rock and coming-of-age indie pop energy. It’s warm and authentic and features killer guitar, drums and synth textures that flit around lightly while also coming across as polished and deeply resonant.
This is definitely one of our favorite tracks from Ava so far! Its deeply personal yet universally relatable to anyone who has seen the highs and lows and is currently navigating a challenging phase in their lives. Ava totally gets how you feel and arms you with resilience and confidence to see this slump through, one melodious day at a time.
