Piano virtuoso Bains’s latest instrumental piece, ‘Death’s Exile,’ is a soulful, evocative ode to her personal battles.
Living with epilepsy since her birth, her life is understandably unpredictable, always on the brink. Her compositions reflect the tumultuousness of her condition, constantly oscillating between life and death. From this journey, she’s experienced crushing pains and also received pure love from those around her.
‘Death’s Exile’ was inspired by her epileptic experiences. She shares about how some seizures would feel so out so body that when it finally subsided, it felt like a part of her was lost forever. She kept wondering why death wasn’t coming for her yet. Realizing that perhaps she had a lot more to contribute and accomplish in this life before leaving this earthly plane. Its that struggle and resilience that is reflected through this composition.
From start to finish, the composition unfolds in a majestic, cinematic fashion. The opening notes, sombre and melancholy, reflect her struggles. Yet, despite the struggles, there’s always been hope, a sense of purpose, and a path to becoming. The track’s shift to a more hopeful tone beautifully reflects this dichotomy.
At just over two and a half minutes, this track doesn’t overstay its welcome. Yet in that short, it’s able to convey so much. We have nothing but respect and admiration for this artist that doesn’t cover or play the victim to her condition. Instead, despite all the challenges, she rises to the occasion each time and with each note of piano to deliver compelling, emotional instrumental compositions. Ones that would surely inspire anyone going through something difficult in this life.
