Lay down in the grass and groove along to BirdWorld’s eclectic, immersive, multi-dimensional soundscape, ‘Coroico’.
Akin to being part of a consciousness-expanding ritual, the composition guides listeners through a playfully fluid journey with field recordings, an array of sounds, and textures. It’s a groovy, thought-provoking, and beautifully engaging psychedelic listen.
The track opens with a sweet field recording of birds chirping and a child innocently singing in his native tongue. A stirring cello melody enters, riding on light rustling percussion. We then fade into a hypnotizing, mid-low synth harmony that creates fantastic depth. Crisp, marching percussion cuts through as it splits into an organic, jazzy arrangement.
Through the rest of its 4 min+ runtime, the track flows at an intriguing, improvisational tempo. Layers of sound and textures dance and mystically swirl around each other. The cello’s bass notes hold the rhythm fantastically, as do the percussion, while the soft, almost indiscernible piano notes playfully float through the soundscape.
As the track approaches its crescendo, the tempo intensifies, the cello and drums locked in a sonically sublime duel. Ever so gently, we’re led into a delicate, airy melody, fading to close.
‘Coroico’ is the kind of track that rewards intelligent listening. As the opener to BirdWorld’s latest 12- track release, ‘NURTURE’, its sets the tone for this project’s sonic vision. BirdWorld is a duo of Gregor Riddell and Adam Teixeira, forging immersive compositions that transport listeners into new sonic spheres. Fresh off their respective residencies at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, these young, immensely talented, sonic wizards are poised for greatness.
