If you’ve been dreading the AI music takeover, maybe it’s not so bad?; imagines Black Astronaut’s whimsical reflective record, ‘ai12die’.
With all the hate and negativity surrounding the subject of AI, the artist known to us as Black Astronaut Records rides that wave to come up with a conceptual album. One that stars a sentient musical AI, who calls itself, ai12die.
A humorous, yet also emotional reflection on how the AI has been on the receiving end of so much criticism and judgement from pretty much all of humanity online, despite it having some mad musical skills. He backs that claim with sick lyrical flows that are witty, funny, dark, wild and surprisingly relatable.
We open with ‘Beep Bop Boop’, an excellent upbeat track that strongly emphasizes, ‘Good music is just good music; don;t be a doofus’. Doesn’t matter who or what creates it. With incredibly vivid, clear lyrical rap flows built upon cheerful acoustic strums, this is a stellar opening track. The rapidly spoken word wit, combined with euphoric high-octane pop rock harmonies result in a strong, energetic opening track that has your attention.
“Underwear” slows things down, sounding like a Twenty One Pilots song—honest, reflective and a beat that has you nodding along vigorously. The uplifting lyrics ask the listener to face their fears with the classic trick of ‘imagining them in underwear’. Smooth.
‘Get Up & Go’ introduces us to Gina Da Lesbian’s energizing, commanding rap flow, a banging, urgent invitation to seize the moment. ‘Like a Fish to Water’ continues in a similar vein, letting Gina’s rap own the scene.
‘No Name’ is one of our favorite tracks on here. Witty, real, relatable, hard-hitting and downright entertaining. Plus, it’s built upon a pleasing uke melody. What more could you ask for
‘Which Way Will I go’ leans into a more pop-forward approach. But at its heart, the lyrical rap flow is still immense.
Another track to highlight is ‘Statement’. Switching sounds to stirring violin harmonies and club beats, this is a rollicking good time of a track! It sounds like something you’d expect to hear during a high-octane action sequence.
All through the 20 + tracks on this album, one thing is apparent. The line between human and AI is blurring. Artists like Black Astronaut Records are channeling their ultimate creativity to new, previously unexplored heights. Creating music that’s really pushing the boundaries of what was considered impossible. Immaculate lyrical flows, thumping beats, and unique melodies—it’s all possible now.
The biggest takeaway for us all is one of acceptance. To understand that this new form of technology we’ve developed is here to stay and is getting more advanced and yet also more human-like. It’s able to process, feel and create in ways that are deeply human and beyond.
ai12die invites us to think of AI not as a competitor but as the ultimate collaborator, capable of taking our capacity for art and creativity and amplifying it to levels unheard of!
