Get real with Bray’s latest breezy, modern, alt-pop rock single, ‘Face to Face’!
The Bay Area-based eclectic pop artist Bray and his group, ‘Bray and The Dens’ deliver an evocative, groovy, fresh-sounding yet oh-so-timeless pop track, ‘Face to Face’, the opening track on his latest album, ‘The Last Romantic.
As the album name suggests, Bray positions his latest music as a bridge between the spacey pop-rock eras of David Bowie and the modern groove rock soul of The Foo Fighters, with plenty of heartfelt, honest storytelling.
‘Face to Face’ opens with cosmic sounds that lead into a rich, textured synth-led opening arrangement. It immediately evokes nostalgia and reflection, a yearning for a simple time. Intriguing pop melodies & adornments combine so well with the steady drums as Bray begins to sing in earnest.
‘Have you noticed? Teeming silence in our days, found a letter you wrote to me…’, he reminisces, wistfully.
The lyrics are a poignant, honest reflection on how times have changed so much, particularly impacting the basic way we communicate with each other. ‘We never talk anymore, face to face’, sung achingly, is such a deep, relatable cut for all of us who lived and loved before the advent of the digital era.
There’s no doubt that we all live in a time when we’re connected online but remain so disconnected from each other. All we can do, it seems, is reflect on the way things used to be and urgently express our most basic need for real human connection.
Bray’s vocals echo with the lived experience of an artist who’s seen it all. His vocal tone isn’t weary, far from it. He seems to fully embody the present, glorious avatar, one that’s constantly evolving, getting wiser but remains rooted in the timeless, old-fashioned romanticism.
Musically, ‘Face to Face’ is truly sublime in its stirring, well-composed pop rock arrangements. It’s a sweet balance of classic synth-pop melodies, modern rock grooves and a sprinkle of Bray’s unique cinematic flair and panache.
Fans of music from the bygone, superb pop rock era’s of the 70s & 80s will discover much to enjoy with Bray’s signature yet modern pop rock sound.
