Originally from Brussels (BE), BRUJ has been active since 2014 as a collective. Made up by Antoine, Simon and Raphaël (together Bruj), the funk / dream pop / electro trio debuted only in 2023 with their single Moonlight. The trio have appropriate vintage sounds and modernize them with delightful craft and energy. 

With Moonlight being their first track, it sets the stage for the combined genre and gives us a peek into their music theory and interpretations. The lo-fi funk jazz track presents a charismatic sound that romanticizes the moon and its astral light. 

The track springs open with funk grooves layered with intricate fingering. This setting is sprayed with replicating vocal motifs. Its monotones and low timbre carry a strange passion that readily ties in with the mystical allure of the song’s theme. As the track progresses, the dominance of the basslines fade to pave the way for a shining luminosity. 

The track is built with a layered complexity that comes with genres like funk. But the high quality production gives it a minimalistic character, with frames seamlessly slipping into the next.
