CantBuyDeem’s latest ‘Keke’s got a baby’ is a brutally honest rap track depicting modern day struggles.
The Chicago rapper teams up with up-and-coming R&B vocalist Afro_Centrk to deliver a track that hits deep with its social commentary, backed by classic rap beats. Its reminiscent of some of Tupac’s no-nonsense tracks.
The lyrics take us deep into the life of a young woman, Keke, as she goes through difficult, crushing challenges of being a single mother and how she got there in the first place. Keke happens to exist within a vicious cycle & environment of drugs and abuse, always chasing that next dollar. CantBuyDeem’s compelling narrative and imagery rap style takes us front and center into the hood, where life is way harder than it seems. Amongst all the chaos, dysfunction, and destruction, Keke’s saddled with the enormous responsibility of raising a child. How will she manage? Will she rise to the challenge or succumb to the realities of her situation like so many before her?
Backing this compelling storytelling is a gripping, immersive hip-hop sound. Sweet crisp beats, groovy rhythms and an intriguing string melody make this really sound like a true crime storytelling docu-piece. Adding to the his sound in a very profound way are the soulful vocal contributions from Afro Centrk. Her pain-infused croonings convey emotional depth and contrast the rap flow beautifully.
This is a track that would definitely resonate with fans of intelligent rap, hip-hop music. Its strays away from the usual fodder of guns, drugs and girls and instead, is hard-hitting and revelatory to the listener in getting a deeper perspective of the lives of people living in the hood.
