Carson Ferris in a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Provo, Utah. The pop artist has played at music festivals at his hometown, featured in music videos and self-admittedly won honourable mentions. He has been releasing his own music since 2021 and his latest single “Ghosts” is as pop as pop gets!
The track starts off with eery mysterious keys where Carson Ferris asks us “Do you believe in ghosts”. The track quickly shifts over to its early 2010s pop sonic palette using its bass and synths that act as rhythm setters. It makes minimal use of percussion during the verse and pre-chorus which makes the electronic beats in the chorus feel climatic. The catchy hook is well written and the overall production follows a tried and tested pop formula.
Carson Ferris gives an endearing vocal performance, especially impressive in the way he chooses to display his range during the bridge. His aura is reminiscent of earlier versions of pop icons like Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes. I look forward to watching him grow into his music!
The songwriting explores heartbreak using ghosts as a metaphor for the past. While the first verse is fresh and narrates the experience of being used, the second verse moves forward in time and takes the tone of acceptance rather than blame. The bridge ends with a message forgiving yet not forgetting; an act of courage, to move ahead and not fall into the same old patterns.
“Ghosts” by Carson Ferris is an impressive addition to his discography. Make sure to check it out here:
