Catherine Elms’s “Medusa” is a hauntingly dark, slow-burning alt-rock track that has you in her sights, set to turn you to stone!
The Welsh rocker delivers a sultry, captivating vocal performance backed by brooding rhythms and ominous atmospherics as if entering the den of the wicked mythical creature, Medusa. Her vocals evoke intense emotions and create fantastic tension in the opening verses.
The chorus explodes to life with hypnotic gothic arrangements, her voice purposeful and passionate. It reminds the listener of Evanescence’s tracks where Amy Lee displayed similar commanding vocals backed by compelling prog-rock instrumentation. It features Chris Stagg on the guitars & bass and Tim Trotter on the drums. The track was mixed and mastered Chris who does an excellent work of crafting a dark, slow-burning sound that grips the listener and immerses you into Elms’ dark, wicked narrative.
Elms describes Medusa as an anthem of embracing the parts of ourselves we’ve been taught to hide—jealousy, anger, fear. It’s about reclaiming the so-called “ugly” emotions that make us human and transforming them into power. The result is a track that’s gothic, cathartic, and beautifully monstrous.
Accompanying this track is an equally gothic music video featuring the artist herself, artistically enacting her darkly delicious transformation into Medusa, scary and sultry, complete in her glorious avatar, with real snakes and owning her little boy toys. It’s incredibly dark, sexy, and moody. Matching the intensity and the gravity of this track perfectly. Check it out HERE.
If this is a glimpse of what Catherine’s upcoming second album has in store, prepare to be spellbound. With Medusa, Elms doesn’t just sing—she strikes.
