Aussie Alt Rockers Clay Brown & the Trouble Round Town channelize our shared unrest and struggle with living in the present in these cruel, unforgiving, digitally powered times with their hard-hitting, anthemic new track, ‘Satisfy Your Mind’.
As the title suggests plainly, the track aims to break us out of the hypnotizing, life-draining prisons we seem to have created for ourselves as a species. Due to our collective dependence on digital consumption, we have, in the process, almost completely lost the plot & ability to think freely anymore.
‘Satisfy Your Mind’ opens explosively, dropping you in an awesome whirlpool of distortion riffs, rebellious blues rock harmonies, and hypnotic grooves. The tone is one of urgent reflection and reset, a stirring shock to the dopamine-deprived mind.
Clay’s vocals, nonchalantly piercing, rhyme cryptically, foreshadowing what’s to come if we persist in our self-destructive ways. The lyrics are clearly targeted to addressing our species’s greatest challenge right now. That of being unable to tear ourselves away from compulsively consuming data, info, content, or whatever you want to call it. Emphasizing the doom in our endless scrolling and suggesting, not in a preachy way, to free ourselves. To find other ways to ‘Satisfy Your Mind.’ He does so in a way that doesn’t make you feel like you’re all alone in this. Rather, this feels like a crucial rallying cry for an awakening of our collective consciousness.
Musically, the blues rock arrangements take a tight hold on you, hypnotic in the verses, then taking awesome tonal shifts through the bridge and chorus. Compelling and thoroughly engaging on all fronts. We especially savored the part just shy of the three-minute mark, when the track elevates the emotional quotient markedly, delving into hazy layers, appealing to our compassionate sides that give you goosebumps.
“Is there room to breathe?’ A brief moment of silence follows, as if waiting for you to answer, before they rock back into the evocative bridge and chorus. This feels strongly like the work of a tightly-knit group that’s got each other’s back 100%
In times where even though collectively, we’re all digitally more connected than ever, yet individually, we’re also more isolated than ever, craving satisfaction with every scroll, ‘Satisfy Your Mind’ arrives like a befitting reminder to reclaim our power.
