‘Mehico’ by Crooked Cranes is a bright, mellow rock tune that captures the spirit and undeniable allure of escape. Our narrator finds themselves far off in Mexico, as the soundscape seems to decompress as though the song’s taking a breath after a fun, intense night out. “…I just wanna get stoned,…I don’t wanna go home…”.
The soundscape’s bright, catchy melodies capture this sort of breathless weightlessness. Narrator and listener alike find themselves in a place where worries seem incredibly far away and where moments feel light without the heavy weight of responsibility.
‘Mehico’ feels as though it’s reeling from something intense, the soundscape moving as though it’s slumping down to take a breath. The guitars and percussion on the track feel light and subdued to complement this mood.
It also seems to capture the mood of what feels like a rebellious adventure, capturing the “here-and-now” -ness of youth. From being “…passed out in the hotel room…” to “…jumping on the bed…”, something about the song’s mellowed down, subdued melodies pairs well with the almost reckless nature that comes with being young and a bit wild.
‘Mehico’ by Crooked Cranes captures a mood that feels so mellow yet specific. It takes on the aftermath of a fun night out in Mexico, reeling in the mess that comes after. It captures those moments in between and runs with them.
