Drift away to Daniel Higley’s cosmic prog rock composition, ‘Reach Out’

For listeners of prog rock acts such as NIN, Riverside, PT & the like, ‘Reach Out’ will resonate deeply. Eerie, slow-burning, and layered, this track gets deeper by the listen. It feels like listening to an angel’s confession as she slowly turns to the dark side.

It opens onto ethereal, dreamy synths and angelic vocals flowing on a crisp, patient drumbeat. The emotional tone is tense and engaging, as whispered vocals are now joined by a violin melody. The atmospherics grow deeper by the minute; complex layers emerge and converge.

The use of space and depth is quite remarkable as the track furthers into more serious, somber tones. The dark, moody symphonic arrangements evoke a restless unease, swelling briefly. ‘Reach Out’ has this magnetic pull-and-push momentum to it, patient, almost sinister.

Past the halfway mark, the tone and intensity escalate a few notches as the arrangements grow more urgent. Subtle distortion riffs merge and transform into wailing guitar tones before finally the track fades into a weightless, silent outro.

This is a track well-suited as a score for immersive, free-flowing movements and performances. Its captivating, almost hypnotizing effects last well beyond the last note. ‘Reach Out’ is the first single from Daniel’s forthcoming LP ‘The Pendulum’, out later this summer.
