Get Amped up with David Potter’s theatrical, dramatically brilliant rap opus, ‘Introduction. Beginning of the End’
It’s been a while since we listened to a more fitting album opening track than this one. David goes to great lengths to convey the unyielding intensity, drive, and passion behind his latest 2 Disc Album release, ‘The Miseducation of MMA, Vol 3’ and boy, does it pack a punch. Just how he intended it to! Think an epic build-up followed by some evil, Eminem-esque rap lines.
We open theatrically. Welcomed by a grandly whimsical operatic voice, welcoming us with sheer explicit exuberance and plenty of comic relief. Applause rains, leading us into the beginning of something epic. Ominous backing vocals are joined by thumping beats, claps and urgent synths, leading into the opening verse with some style & substance.
David’s opening rap verse is wicked and so well written. He pulls no punches, delivering with a brutal, upbeat confidence.
‘Welcome back to the future, for your final semester…..’ he declares with unstoppable force. He spits some hard-hitting bars, making razor-sharp references at a rapid, blinding tempo. This is the kind of track that makes you sit up and take notice.
‘Introduction. Beginning of the End’ doesn’t abide by conventional song structure. It’s an unbridled, energetic welcome to David’s immense artistic vision with ‘The Miseducation of MMA, Vol 3’. We descend into a chaotic section of operatic and rap vocals, amped by the backing beats and crescendoing atmospherics.
Quite brilliantly, it concludes with a precious, soothing outro, almost as if to lull you into a sense of comfort before applause rains once more. This is the definition of cinematic, theatrical hip-hop and we’re all for it!
