Groove to Decimus CS’s reflective nocturnal indie folk rock track, ‘City Lights & Big Mistakes’!

The track evokes a despairing cry for help, laden with regret for seeking forgiveness for his sinful ways from the previous night. Coated in somber, smokey, bluesy guitar-led atmospherics, cinematic synths and Decimus’s bare-it-all, confessional vocals, ‘City Lights & Big Mistakes’ seeks redemption and guidance from a divine power.

The Florida-based singer/songwriter & performer Decimus CS draws from his lived experiences and honest learnings from travelling around the country and his varied musical influences from jazz, blues, hip-hop, rock, and Americana to share about his personal journey of growth and battling his demons.

We open onto melancholic Floyd-esque guitar tones and deep, somber atmospherics, immediately evoking a tone of serious self-reflection, tinged with a little hope. Decimus begins to sing, in a grave tone, ‘Eye of the storm, Fueled by the whisky-filled nights, Taking form…’.

The storm he refers to unravels over the course of the verse. Blurry recollections from last night’s proclivities and waking up next to someone you don’t remember meeting, and neither do they. Decimus’s smooth, yet raw, vocal delivery, enhanced with angst-laden backing vocals, paints a surreal picture, shifting from a moment from last night to this moment.

The chorus crescendos into an immersive, emotional section with Decimus coming clean about how he is feeling and wanting so badly to resolve and recover, to avoid losing him entirely.

What stands out about ‘City Lights & Big Mistakes’ is how it’s able to bridge the narrative of falling into the same self-destructive traps of addiction with seeking forgiveness and guidance and the courage to face these fears.
