Dedrick Soul’s debut release ‘I’d Be A Fortune’ is a bluesy, groovy, evocative R&B gem!
The first thing that strikes us about this track is its unhurried, intentional tempo. Dedrick’s vocals, silky smooth, purposeful and passionate, sings about the importance of knowing your own worth. The track, beautifully composed and arranged, feels like something sprinkled with stardust. Its got that effortless cool & glamour factor to it.
But without over the tope effects and overpacked instrumentation. Dedrick plays it ice cold and we’re all for it. His sound can be loosely compared to a laid-back mix of Freddie Mercury, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak. The track starts in fabulous fashion with his falsetto vocals leading us into an immersive, evocative jazz section with gentle piano, crisp beats and subtle guitar licks.
The track evolves compellingly, taking it own sweet time but never wasting momentum. A special mention to the section just before the 2 min mark where Dedrick extends that last word of the verse, ‘Fool’ into an ecstatic, stretched-out vibrato; the tone is absolutely immaculately balanced with emotion and coolness. Dedrick oozes panache and personality all throughout.
Listening to ‘I’d Be A Fortune’ feels empowering. Not in a loud, braggardly way. With quiet, graceful strength and resolve. I would add this to my morning playlists or listen to this when Im driving. Its got a special quality to it and it feels like a track that deserves a special place in your life. We love what we’re heard from Dedrick with this track and eagerly look forward to more from him soon!
