Delta of Venus releases the sonically brilliant shoegaze-infused indie rock opus ‘Slipping’.

As part of their long-awaited two-track release ‘Disengaged b/w Slipping’, Delta of Venus make a stunning return since their previous album release in 1997! Suffice to say, they have returned with a renewed purpose and have undergone considerable growth and evolution, individually and as a collective.

‘Slipping’ opens with dreamy, astral tones, somber riffs, and introspective drums. Without warning, the track propels forward with considerable momentum and intent, joined by delicate, soft crooning vocals. It reminds the listener a lot of Porcupine Tree’s early works, where they created a similar intrigue with smart, immersive transitions. The vocals seem to cry out to losing out on a fleeting grasp on reality, slipping into a state of nothingness.

The soothing vocals complement the fluid instrumentation brilliantly, creating a mesmerizing listening experience. Delta of Venus moves away from standard verse-chorus songwriting and instead trails a path of their choosing here. They shift from section to section seamlessly, creating a beautiful journey.

A standout aspect of this track has to be the astral instrumentation. Guitars seem to radiate from all directions, over and underneath, paired with impeccable percussion. Around the 4 min mark, the track begins its gradual slowdown, taking it time for the sonic elements to gradually fade away, leaving the listener in silence, bewildered and delighted.

Fans of intelligent, well-composed alt-rock will love their sound and should give this track and the other one on this release, ‘Disengaged’, a close listen.
