DJ Momotaro’s latest release, ‘Neon Heat – Radio Edit’ is a seductive retro-infused synth pop track that flows over you like a warm summer night’s breeze.
The track recreates that infectious ’80s retro pop vibe from its very first note. You may be reminded of the sounds of Rick Astley & Phil Collins from those playful opening harmonies. Momotaro evokes the best of the past and the present with the use of shimmering synths, Eurotrance rhythms, and dynamic progressions. Within the first 20 seconds, you’re hooked.
Evocative, flirtatious vocals from Vessa enter; she sets the scene with vivid visual imagery, leather jackets, high heels, and neon-lit dance floors. The lyrics aren’t complicated; they sing to those heart-racing moments of attraction and desire when eyes meet across a crowded club, and how that leads to an unforgettable night.
Interestingly, ‘Neon Heat’ first manifested in the late 1980s, when Momotaro spontaneously conceptualized it as a teenager, experimenting with synth pads. It remained dormant for decades until one late night recently in his personal studio in Germany, it reappeared in his imagination and was taken forward as a way to reconnect with the pure bliss of retro pop dance.
What stands out is just how polished and slick the tracks sound. The production is exquisite; each element rings out crystal clear, perfectly mixed and mastered for that surround sound experience. Play this at just the right volume on any type of speaker, and it sounds just as good. No doubt, this is a track to relish on late-night drives or tightly packed dance floors.
DJ Momotaro reminds us of just how good the ’80s synth-pop movement was and confidently carries that slick, neon-bathed energy into the future.
