Doc Jazz’s latest upcoming album, ‘Unknown Destination’ is a delightfully upbeat and philosophical collection of funk, R&B, and pop rock tracks that soothe the soul while making you groove as well!
The self-taught Palestinian multi-instrumentalist and songwriter (who is also a surgeon!) has been independently creating music for decades now. His artist name was first coined by his medical colleagues due to his obvious musical talents!
We’ve been given a sneak peek at his latest full-length album, ‘Unknown Destination’ slotted for worldwide release later this month.
The opening track ‘Take My Word For It’ immediately exudes an infectious pop-driven optimism and reflection. Doc’s gentle production makes this such a pleasing listening experience. Built upon catchy pop grooves, sultry vocals, and evocative lyrics, this is a track that really gets you in a mood. Festive, flirtatious, and assertive!
‘How Its Gonna Be’ follows a similar pop groove but slows the tempo a tad, and Doc’s vocals are far more prominent here. We especially enjoy how his lyrical themes are addressed directly at you, the listener, as if he’s conversing with you through his music. Here, he puts the question to you, with ‘Tell me how its gonna be?’ while serenading with exquisite guitar harmonies that bloom along to layered choral vocals and exotic percussions.
The title track, ‘Unknown Destination’ dives into classic blues jazz territory. But where Doc Jazz stands out is with his smart, emotionally resonant lyricism. The track positively empowers the listeners to keep cool, keep growing, to preserve human values of kindness and calmness during these chaotic times. Also, to trust the process during these uncertain times. Keep cool and carry on to our ‘Unknown Destination’ the track suggests, along with excellent jazz instrumental arrangements.
‘Be Yourself To Me’ is a soothing latin pop-esque love song, that builds cinematically and crashes onto soft, soothing vocals that draw you in closer and closer.
‘More to Life’ turns the reflective optimism up to 11! Think Pharell’s ‘Happy’ reimagined with a lot more funk and soul. Doc takes aim at destructive capitalistic and materialistic ways that people lean towards while forgetting basic humanness and experiences, that there’s actually so much more to life!
‘Get Real’ gets so much groovier, with nostalgia-inducing pop melodies and lyrics. Doc smoothly navigates past and through cliches and asks of you to see through the lies and fake smiles and to finally live on your terms.
‘You Do You’ exudes charm and self-awareness, slowing down the pace with a reggae-esque beat. Doc wants you to pursue your individuality and he his and respect each other’s choices in harmony.
‘Change’ opens with a slow emotional melody, reminding one of Sting’s epic ‘Winds of Change’. This track evokes a similar hopeful disposition, and you just want to close your eyes and take a deep breath as you listen to this.
Fittingly, the final track, ‘Gratitude’ makes you reflect on all those who’ve been instrumental in your life, been there through the thick and thin. The lyrics remind you the best way to make people who love you feel appreciated is to just express your gratitude! The witty, rhythmic lyrics build upon funk-laden grooves and feel like a fitting closure to this excellent album. The track signs off with excellent solos and gripping rhythms.
One trait that remains common all through ‘Unknown Destination’ is genuine soul and character. Doc Jazz channels his eclectic, genre-fusing skills to deliver an album that is as much a groove as it is character building and soul grounding.
Stay tuned to Doc Jazz’s Spotify page, as this album will be out at the end of this month for your listening pleasure!
