Synthwave artist Ectoplague’s latest is a straight-up horror film-inspired darksynth track, ‘The Crescent Heights Slasher’, that will give you the chills!
If ever there was a fitting synth soundtrack to a slasher flick, it would have to be this one, hands down! The artist, a confessed fan of the slasher genre, drew his inspiration for this creepy soundtrack from cult flicks like Scream.
A very talented synthwave artist in his own right, Ectoplague pulls out all the stops to make this track as gripping as possible. This isn’t just a fanboy dedication to horror movies. It’s a detailed soundtrack unfolding a night in the life of a serial killer. The track opens with menacing notes, perhaps signifying the advent of the night and, with it, the emergence of the slasher in his habitat.
The opus then launches into a hypnotic, retro-inspired synth section, complete with throbbing rhythms and fear-inducing harmonies. As if declaring that the slasher is now officially on the prowl tonight, on the hunt for his latest, unsuspecting victim. Around halfway in, the track takes an even more menacing turn of tone, drawing us deeper into Ectoplague’s imagination. It loops back into the earlier harmonies, yet sounds eerily different somehow. The final 30 seconds of the track are mind-bending, with it building up the tension a little more before crescendoing abruptly.
This isn’t a track for the faint of heart. Heck, ‘The Crescent Heights Slasher’ may even creep out the brave of heart. But what cannot be denied is Ectoplague’s artistic vision and genius. He turns his inspiration into a gripping, immersive, darkwave track that will be remembered.
