Lay back and heal yourself, its time for ‘Good Medicine’, a soulful, evocotive indie folk opus from Elephant Moon.

Elephant Moon is the solo project of Anders Dal, blending melancholic indie-folk with intimate, atmospheric songwriting. That perfectly describes the vibe of this track. Listening to this feels like the perfect soothing sonic balm for coping with exhaustion and overwhelm.

‘Good Medicine’ opens with a gentle fingerpicked acoustic guitar and piercing, haunting violin melodies. Its almost as if to invite the listeners into a moment of self-reflection, to actually check if with themselves.

Anders’s soulful, Dylan-esque vocals set the tone, ‘Take it easy on yourselves….. You’re so tired, you cannot sleep, you eyes are puffy…. you don’t take good care of yourself’. These are deeply personal lines, sung directly at the listener, almost as if Anders knows you so well.

The opus expands into an evocotive, romantic section, with the title refrain, ‘Good Medicine,’ being quoted as the balm to ‘ease your mind and make the pain go away.’ The medicine being quoted is the simple, powerful ability that we all share, that is to take a few deep breaths and connect into the present moment. No more ‘what happened’ or ‘what will happen’, just a return to the ‘What is’. A place of profound stillness and healing.

What stands out is just how simple and stripped down this composition is. Yet, it pierces deeper than most. At just over two and a half minutes, it’s concise yet moving. We learn that this track was recorded live in just one take with interwoven violins by Barbara Bartz and bass by David Villanueva overdubbed later. Truly a powerful testament to the ‘less is more’ approach to music making. Something Elephant Moon have nailed down so well.

We love what we’ve heard and felt relaxed by ‘Good Medicine’. Once you’ve healed up from this track, you should check out their other single, ‘Where Were You’ next!
