Ellery Twining is a drummer and musician who primarily experiments with the genre of pop, adding his own Avant-Garde touch to it. He attempts to break free from the structures of conventionality and create art that is groundbreaking. He has released two albums in the past and the third track from the artist’s second album “Results” is unlike anything the pop landscape is used to hearing!

“Dusty Springfield’s Record Collection” has a very interesting sonic palette with sounds and elements that sound carefully and delicately handpicked. The strings are guitar-adjacent but not quite and the percussion although rhythmic, creates a quaint ambience. There is an air of mystery to the track that is held on to tightly by the bass. The keys are used sparsely and add an ethereal effect. I particularly enjoyed the bassline from 1:44 onwards!

The vocals take the form of spoken word and narrate the story of “Dusty Springfield’s Record Collection”. The vocal performance creates significant amounts of space in between the narration for instrumentation which aids in the building up of suspense. The deep voice of the lead vocalist creates the aura of a spooky story time session. The songwriting splinters pieces of the puzzle everywhere, letting the listener make sense of it all. We witness an involved rather than a detached narrator who is a part of the story of a pop star who gives up their stardom and ends up starting a record store.
