‘Around the Sun and Back Again’ – A hard-hitting, deeply reflective prog rock anthem from Exit12.
This is a track that exudes raw power and controlled intensity & emotion. Hard rock instrumentation, compelling lyrics, and a high-intensity rock vibe similar to Audioslave, Foo Fighters & Queens of the Stone Age.
The track explodes to life from the first second, all-enveloping, thunderous riffs, heavy yet evocative. The opening lines are sung with a soulful honesty and vulnerability. Posting the kind of existential questions that we all encounter, perhaps some more urgent than others. The lyrics attempt to make sense of this so-called game we call life. ‘What should I do? …Where do I go?…..Follow your heart…..what do I know….’ Such lines are delivered with compelling sincerity and resilience.
Covering themes of survival, identity, purpose, and perspective, Exit12 seeks to really get us thinking about what really matters. To put things into perspective, the lyrics make clever cosmic references. ‘66000 miles…. per hour’. That’s the speed at which our planet is orbiting through space. We measure the timescape of our lives by the journey of our planet around the sun. And each time the earth completes another trip, it leads us to deeper seeking, often resulting in despair.
Musically, ‘Around the Sun and Back Again’ is a tight, technically solid production. All the elements feel in total sync, feeding off each other’s energy with dynamism and precision. At the 2 min mark, the track takes an interesting refrain, slowing the tempo and melody to a tropical strum, reggae-almost before brilliantly igniting into euphoric, face-melting vocals and instrumentation.
We learn that this track actually came out of a phase of difficult transitions for the group members. Making the essence of this track all the more about perseverance, faith, and hope.
This track is off their latest full album release, ‘Condition:Human’. If this track is anything to go by, we’re surely excited to give a listen to the other tracks and listen to just how far the rabbit hole takes us.
