Glass Rumours’s latest and final in their five-track ‘waterfall’ release, ‘The Rolling Deep Blue Sea’ is an emotionally intelligent, immersive pop-rock confessional.

We’ve had the privilege to review quite a few of this talented duo’s (Gemma & Paul) tracks recently, and they never fail to surprise and delight with the sheer versatility and intentionality they exhibit in each track.

‘The Rolling Deep Sea’ hits that sweet spot between jazzy, bluesy-ness and uplifting, anthemic, pop-rock sensibilities. The lyrics cleverly make references to some of the group idols like Sting, Nirvana, Queen & others. The words point to a crushing pain, frustration and despair at not being able to find the right words to say what needs to be said. Despite having all the inspiration in the world through music.

We’ve mentioned that Gemma records her vocals from her quaters on cruise ship in the middle of the ocean. That in itself gives chorus line like ‘Cos every time I start to speak, I try to give you more than I can be (be). And every day I fall too deep, I sink into the rolling deep blue sea (sea).’, all that more grvitas and meaning. Her vocal delivery is powerful and emotional, she hits those high notes with ease, while also roaring in other sections, really making a strong impression with her vocals.

Paul’s production and arrangement of the instrumentaion is quite remarkable. With this track, he choose to take a more bluesy, introspective sound with jazzy guitar, horns and grand piano. Giving this track a more smoky, live-bar perforamance feel. That perfectly adds to the emotional depth of the lyrics and yet theres plenty to rock along to as well.

Ultimately, this is such a well-balanced track and once again highlghts Glass Rumours ability to present a whole new exeprience with each track they released recently.
