Hákon Hjaltalín is an Iceland born and raised singer-songwriter and guitarist with a long-standing background in music and instrumentation. The artist draws inspiration from 60s and 70s rock styles, infusing it into the ruminative atmosphere of his consciousness. In his latest single, Battle With Mortality, Hákon Hjaltalín explores existential themes, referencing The Beatles in his nostalgia and hauntingly melancholic soundscape and Frederick Mercury’s passionate vocals.

The track holds beautiful progressions that are extensions of the evolving vocal emotion. While the softer and gentle frames are lined with passive acoustics, Hákon’s vocal boost invokes strident and emphatic rock instrumentation. We see the twinkling piano keys and glinting strings being transformed into a resonant rock soundscape with soaring riffs, meaty basslines, and fantastic shreds. From pensive to passion, the song carries it all with grace.

The artist debuted in 2019 with his album, Black Dogs, the songs from which have performed and showcased in various events across Iceland. After a brief hiatus, he returned earlier this year (2023) with his single, Out of Sight; following it up with this track. Listen Now!

The track is available for streaming on popular sites like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music!
