Hilgrove Kenrick & Sam Watts debut collaboration, “Mirror” is a stirring, evocative instrumental opus.

The track is a delicate piano interplay between the artists located across continents, who performed, composed, and completed it in just a single day. The objective was to perform a piece with two pianos that mirror each other. They do so with a starling clarity and intimacy. The result is a deeply moving, healing soundscape, one that’s as healing as it is emotionally deep to listen to.

Fittingly, they chose the release date to coincide with World Piano Day, March 29th. What more fitting way to pay tribute to the legacy of this instrument than through such a compelling masterpiece?

“Mirror” opens with soft, fragile notes, treading lightly, setting the tone for a graceful unfolding. The artists perform in sublime cohesion, creating a deeply moving sound that is evocative, vulnerable and immersive. Gently then, deep vocals enter, wordlessly, a Sufi-like expression of voice, moving in symphony with the instrumentation. Gradually, as the opus evolves, the vocals go a pitch higher, conveying an intensifying of emotion. The pianos stay subtle and evocative, though, providing great depth and texture to the vocals.

As suddenly as it began, “Mirror” ends. This is a track for moments of reflection and quiet, perhaps for long walks or lying down, stargazing. A track as compelling as this deserves ample space to be experienced properly. We’re thrilled to listen to this coming together of two legendary pianists and look forward to hearing more from each of them and collectively!
