Hang on to your dear life with this scintillating, immersive, sonically brilliant alt-rock opus from I Forget Myself, ‘Bygones’.
The Alt-rock artist makes a significant return to the scene with the release of ninth studio album, ‘An Exception’, at the start of this year. And what a way it is to make a reintroduction. ‘Bygones’ is a hard-hitting, yet reflective track, armed with thunderous rhythmic riffs, excellent drum and basslines, and his dreamy poetic lyrics and hypnotic vocals. Think Muse meets Nirvana in a one-of-a-kind collaboration for the ages!
We open without a moment’s waste onto gripping riffs and crashing drums, exploding into life with an impressive, dominating arrangement. Enter his smoky, cosmic vocals voicing his thoughts cryptically. The lyrics can be perceived as an intricately expressed anguish and despair, laced with crushing regret and remorse for what may never be.
Where this track really shines is in its exceptional prog rock riff arrangement that exude a raw yet balanced power the likes of we haven’t really felt in a while. Not to be outdone, the drum arrangements are stunning too, playing a pivotal role in enhancing the instrumentation. Ofcouse his sultry urgent vocals bring it all together with a mesmerizing effect. This speaks volumes to the artist’s dedication and perseverance in mastering his craft, and there’s no doubt that his talent is a rare find.
Halfway into ‘Bygones’, the track swerves into a gripping build-up. Rapid riffs and subtle percussion acrobatics build tension and anticipation fantastically. Before launching into what we can only describe as a sonic rock tornado. The drums escalate unbelievably, joined by superbly expressive riffs. Its an arrangement that immediately has a shock-and-awe effect on you; we went back here a couple of times, just to experience and listen to its majesty.
Emerging out the other side with stunning confidence, he lays down a final wailing guitar lick before the thunderous arrangement conclude the track.
A must listen for prog rock enthusiats! You’e just found your jam for the year.
