Rockers Rejoice! ‘Jackson Fig – Call Me When You Need Help with the Bodies’ is your new muse to savor. It’s got all the right elements that make a great alt/grunge rock track.
From Nirvana-Esque heavy hypnotic looping riffs, groovy basslines, strained, angsty vocals, thundering drums, to smart, immersive builds and transitions, this is a track that keeps you guessing, and you will like what you find. Taken from their latest album, ‘Good Morning, Factory’, ‘Call Me When You Need Help with the Bodies’ is the fourth track in the lineup and as such has a compelling feel to it.
Unsettling distorted riffs set the scene before it explodes into action with the first lines, ‘Wish you wouldn’t walk in the dark…’. The track pulls your attention into its dark, shoegaze-driven world. What sets this track apart is its unpredictability. It doesn’t let up in intensity initially, luring you into a false sense of anticipation. It slows down beautifully in the middle, moving at a hypnotic tempo before picking up the pace once more.
The vocals drip with purpose and intent, each word agonizingly raw. The addition of distant vocal yells adds yet another dimension to it. Like hearing a murder happening just around the corner. It’s bone-chilling yet exhilarating.
Jackson Fig feels like a very well put-together trio, like they’ve been playing forever. The sum of their energies produces deep catharsis for the listener. A gem of a discovery if you’re into intelligent, progressive, alt/grunge music.
