Prepare to have your mind blown. ‘Parasite’ is a blistering, soaring, alt-rock opus from Arizonian Rockers Jane N’ The Jungle

This is a track that exudes a thunderous, wild, intense energy, but it’s delivered with such controlled dynamism. It conjures up images of an apocalyptic world, where our species fights for survival. Perhaps that is what the message, or rather the warning bell, that this track tolls. Loudly.

The track opens with unsettling, ominous tones, a subdued drum beat starts to play and eerie vocals begin to sing. She sings in cryptic riddles, making covert references to the overly digital hellscape our world is slowly turning into. Underneath, you can feel tension building, the bridge section is particularly compelling as she sings, ‘Theres a virus inside us all, T-minus to the times up, cause…..’.

The following chorus is a cataclysmic explosion of sound. Blaring distortion riffs, thunderous drums and the vocal intensity dialled up to a hundred. Its definitely one of the best hard rock breakdowns we’ve heard in a while. The vocals, sinister and darkly, declare itself as the parasite, the cause and the curse, the consequence. This is now their war. Its an all-out declaration of mass destruction, and we’re right at the centre of it.

The vocals from Jordan White are a standout aspect of this track. Her commanding vocal presence, soft and fragile in the verses and then explosive and thunderous in the chorus, shows remarkable range and dynamism. Perhaps one of the best female rock voices right now.

Musically, this is such a masterpiece, too. The track doesn’t rush in explosive riffs. It builds tension and anticipation fantastically, using pause and transition spaces so well. Creating sonic depth and texture to the track before unleashing a blistering, heavy metal arrangement in the choruses.

Listeners of dark, powerful rock music will find themselves listening to this many times over. The Parasite has been unleashed.
