Jenna Feeney is a pop artist with strong country influences. She has released her own music since 2015 but moved to Nashville in 2021 to pursue a career in music. With two EPs and four singles under her belt, her latest release “Raining on My Parade” comes as an impressive addition to her discography!
“Raining on My Parade” introduces vocals immediately along with urgent guitar instrumentation. The track has a minimalist production style with simple percussion being an important element. The back-up vocals and layering of the vocals was well done in my opinion and the track has an overall aura of Taylor Swift’s early releases. Jenna Feeney has a captivating voice which when combined with her heartfelt songwriting, translates her message to the listener with ease.
The songwriting manages to be intensely and openly vulnerable without shame while managing to not invite pity. It has strength and assertion at its core which was one of the highlights of the track for me. Jenna Feeney speaks to the way her economic situation and larger global politics affects her personally and causes her loss of faith in humanity. She is not dancing in the rain on her parade and her response to this is meant to be carefree, but Jenna understands the hollowness of that social mask. I really enjoyed the fact that she centres herself in the song as opposed to a love interest or her other relationships.
“Raining on my Parade” is written at the point when the illusion of having it all together as an adult is broken. It is a mid-20s crisis explored eloquently! Make sure to check out Jenna Feeney’s work here:
