John Lebanon – Self Made World is a soulful, comforting indie rock ballad. It’s a heartfelt, sincere folk-pop expression that hits deeper than it first appears to.
The mood is reflective, vulnerable, and free-flowing. The artist brilliantly integrates classic indie vibes with smart, bluesy instrumentation and catchy vocals. Hailing from Lebanon is frontman & songwriter Roy Souaid. His similarities in appearance to John Lennon were noted some time ago (Hence the band name!), and it can be confidently said that this does justice to his band’s John Lennon-esque musical sensibilities.
Roy, along with other band members Matt, Jihad, and Deluccia, are timeless storytellers through sound. The track itself twists and turns majestically. Revolving around richly immersive guitars, atmospheric sounds, and a pulsing bass. Producer Alex Krepikh does fantastically to maintain the track’s ambient and indie feel.
The vocals are gentle and slightly high-pitched, but dripping with sincerity. Singing, “Beneath the city lights, I will be your guide” and “I can be your angel, wings stretched wide / In battle grounds, side by side.” There lies a quiet strength in these words, a soft reassurance that everything is going to be alright.
If there were ever a song that could be a positive advocate for mental health, emotional resilience, and hope, it would have to be “Self Made World”. Just listening along to the floating harmonies and ethereal-sounding synths in this feels like a safe space, a calming assurance.
