Listening to this superbly crafted ballad evokes the kind of euphoric sentimentality that gives you goosebumps, akin to hearing Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ for the first time! Led by Julie July’s strong, sublime vocals, piercing lyrics, and rich instrumental arrangements.
‘Gold Dust’ opens on a gentle, stirring piano melody and Julie’s emotional opening lines, ‘Turn the clock back, To a time that, seems like only yesterday…..’. Tender acoustics join the fray as Julie achingly reminisces about a love lost, yearning to be found again.
The lyrics are an elegantly poetic reflection on the passage of time and how it affects every love we’ve ever given and received. Nostalgia is a central theme to this opus. Hard to pick just what stands out, only because everything about the band performance here is exceptional. Be it Julie’s captivating, emotive vocals or the stirring harmonies created by the acoustic and electric instruments.
Standing tall at just shy of a 5 minute runtime, ‘Gold Dust’ exudes magnificent grace, panache and depth all throughout. It’s the kind of track that you could so easily lose yourself in. Go right ahead.
