‘Apathy Star’ is Korfian’s scathing warning message disguised in a gripping experimental, industrial opus.
Greek artist Spyros Psarras, aka Korfian operates his sound inspired by the fringe elements of society. He prefers to on the outside, looking in. What he sees is deeply distrubing. A numbed, disillusioned populous, hypnotized by their handheld screens and sensory overloads. He conveys this warnming message through his blend of industrial, dark waves, electro-pop armed with hypnotic beats, unsettling synths atmospherics and his melocholic vocal delivery. ‘Apathy Star’ is from his upcoming album release ‘Digital Brutalism’, extending his music to effects of digitality upon our humanity.
The lyrics deliver a scathing criticism of the brain-dead, isolated lives we’re leading. Lines like “Connected online, But inhumane secluded” speak to the wicked irony in which we are supposedly connected to everyone and everything throught the internet, but in turn how become solitary, disconnected creatures in terms of real-life interations. Its a statement deeply in rooted in the truth of today’s ever-growing digital landscape.
And in that landscape, Korfian stands out as an outlier, an ‘Apathy Star’, caught in the crossfire of humanity destructive ways, caught in a paradox of his/our own creating. His voice acts as being a much needed reality check. This is not a track for the daith of heart. Its for those who seek to awaken, to break free of the mind-numbing overload of digital interation and connect back to what it really means to be human again.
Musically, this track has dense, dark atmospherics, with visible infusion of Gothic texturess. Its a serious artpiece with meloncholic melodies with unsettling beats with a gripping premise and intention. After all, its the fate of our consciousness that is at stake here.
