laum’s latest, ‘Float’ is dreamy, immersive, and every bit a downtempo masterpiece!
Imagine if electronic legends such as Air, Daft Punk and Alt-J came together; that’s the kind of grandly cinematic, emotional, swaying journey laum takes us through on ‘float’.
We open on weary, nonchalant vocals that sound like something from an Eurythmics track.
‘Streetlights below us, quiet like snow….’
The lyrics paint a surreal picture of a sort of altered state of consciousness. It’s hard to tell if this is a dream state. laum’s words envelop us completely like a warm embrace. Themes of adventure, dissolution, and dreamstate consciousness occur to us briefly.
Ominous sounds build meanwhile, evoking a mix of intrigue, fear, and awe. ‘float’ then opens in an expansive section; layers of synths converge and dissolve into one another. Flowing on a crisp, subtle beat as laum’s soft, echoing vocals lull us into a wondrous daze.
Musically, ‘float’ is hypnotic, melodic downtempo at its finest. It’s intricately textured and layered, produced in a way that sounds amazing on a range of music outputs; yes, we tested it out! Best, of course, is listening to this at the end of the day on a good set of headphones. Thank us later.
It’s been a while since we’ve had something this deliciously good to experience from the downtempo electronic scene. We’re delightedly bedazzled by laum’s shimmering production on ‘Float. A surrealistic, under 3 min track that will have you coming back for more, many times,.
