Jive to Map of the Woulds’ eclectic new alt rock composition, ‘GTFO’!
The trio of Woody Frank, Andrew Woods & Adrian Woods make up Map of Woulds. Trailblazing a path of their own creation, influenced by bands like Weezer. Their sound is a funky, whimsical blend of rock, jazz and pop. Their latest ‘GTFO’ is a hilariously original composition that highlights the importance of making a swift exit, aka GTFO!
Without a moment’s waste, the track opens on arrangements that have a mind of their own. One moment you’re amping up, the next flowing through a leisurely path. The opening verse, sung in honest, whimsical tones, lays out a range of situations where GTFO-ing is the best, most sensible option.
As we’ve highlighted, the arrangements flow between grungy and pop, converging in the groovy chorus section. The track’s title, ‘GTFO’ becomes the vocal focal point. We spring between anguished cries of ‘GTFO’ and Beatles-esque lines like, ‘Oh I hate to go, but its late….. its time to GTFO!’
‘GTFO’ is a very carefully put-together composition of differing musical styles. It speaks volumes to the Map of the Woulds’s avant-garde musical creative vision and skills. Between the trio, we’re treated to abrupt shifts and transitions. Yet, it never feels forced. Rather, it evokes a fiery, creative spirit, reminiscent of the 70s, the likes of which are so badly missing from today’s new music.
Starting at the two-minute mark, we’re treated to a relaxed, quietly brilliant guitar solo. It plays ecstatically into the final section, whence the vocals enter, emphasizing once more the importance of knowing just when to GTFO!
