Marc Soucy – Through The Quadrangle is a compelling, cinematic, and psychedelic journey of sound, space and emotion that spans eras of musical cultures and influences from around the world.

Standing tall at over 9 minutes in length, listening to this is taking a one-way ticket adventure through fractals, immersing in ancient, immersive, beautiful instrumentals. It starts with gentle, awakening, ethereal tones. Setting the stage for something mystical, Radiohead-esque to unfold. Then, the female vocals emerge, it seems playful and emotive at first. In the style of Classic Indian Carnatic. However, the addition of dark, serious, orchestral tones in the background change the complexion and outlook.

From there, it twists and turns magnificently, introducing several folk instruments like santoor, tabla before taking a more mediterranean feeel. Introspective guitar riffs add great depth and character here. We journey further west by being introduced to distinctinvely Spanish rhythms and guitars. The track has taken an entirely different feel now from whence it began. It takes a more gypsian feel now, with the trumpets and horns. Finally, it returns to hypnotic santoor and psychdelic looping strings. It concludes ever so completely, leaving us to ponder and let of a sigh of  amazement at what we’ve just experienced. ‘Marc Soucy – Through The Quadrangle’ seamlessly fuses old and new in a brilliant, swirling cauldron of sonic mastery.

There’s an untamed, ritualistic feel to this, an ode to the days past when the art of creating music was held in the highest regard and performed with ecstatic devotion and humility. Marc Soucy is truly a wizard of compiling such unique immersive sonic experiences!
