“Open Your Eyes” is an astral, cinematic synth-pop release from Me & Melancholy
Peter Ehrling, the brainchild behind the Swedish New Wave group, crafts an immersive, danceable synth pop soundscape that sounds like a beautiful coming together of Depeche Mode & The Gorillaz.
‘Open Your Eyes’ is the title track from their latest full-length album release, which builds upon the significant progress they’ve made as a group since their previous album. The track isn’t re-inventing the wheel in any way. Peter has long since made his appreciation for Depeche Mode and the synth pop genre well known. With that in mind, his focus lies on taking his preferred style of music to the next level, in a way that he likes.
The track opens with wicked synths and crisp beats instantly reminding you of ‘Enjoy the Silence’. However, that where the comparisons end as the track charts its own compelling harmony from there. Building layers upon layers of ethereal sounds combined with evocative vocals, creating an immersive, contemplative listening experience. Its the kind of track to close your eyes and lose yourself in, swaying through its utterly hypnotizing sound.
A standout aspect comes around the 3-minute mark, where the track makes a marked slowdown, taking a more free-flowing, improvisational tone before concluding abruptly. Perphaps leading into the following track. This is definitely a track that will lead you into pursuing the entire album experience. Listeners of evocative retro synth pop music will gravitate towards this.
