‘Michael Friedinger – Sundowner’ is an eclectic, jazzy soul fusion opus with a Caribbean/Latin touch—the ultimate balm to soothe, chill, and enliven the weary soul after a long day’s work!
German musician Michael Friedinger’s latest release is a 5-minute instrumental piece that will whisk you away from the day’s worries with its engrossing exchange between beautifully layered instrumental arrangements. The saxophone and piano are the main stars in this rhythmic, soulful track.
‘Sundowner’ opens with a breezy, yacht party vibe. A groovy bassline pairs with exotic percussion—shakers and hand drums—like fine wine and cheese. It immediately relaxes the listener and sets the stage for unfolding the immersive piano melody. Friedinger’s piano melody comes in with grace and panache, unhurried and effortless. Like the host of the party walking into the fray, adorned in their finest, just the golden hues of the sunset descend. The saxophone follows soon after, like an equally elegant co-host. The instruments flow with such beautiful grace in random order; it’s a true delight to listen to this section.
Around the halfway point, there’s a very purposefully taken refrain, allowing for emotions to settle a bit. Then the piano starts off in a very expressive solo section. At a noticeably increased tempo and pitch. All this while, the background instrumentation and percussion do great, moving it along at a happy tempo. The saxophone joins in once more with the same warm, uplifting tones as before.
As ‘Sundowner‘ gracefully comes to its satisfying conclusion, there’s a beautiful sense of calmness and fulfillment that lingers. This is a track for warm, cozy, afternoon/late evening sessions. It’s balanced beautifully between its emotional expressiveness and sheer musical genius.
