Morgan-Husband-Feraud is a Jazz Rock Fusion project by the Ghost Jazz Trio that consists if founder James Morgan, Gary Husband and Hadrien Feruad. Their debut single “A Soul in Time” was followed by their EP of the same title in 2024. It features guest artist Eric Marienthal on the Saxophone and Joey De Leon on percussion.

“A Soul in Time” introduces to its listeners all the sonic elements embedded in it from the very beginning. We hear James Morgan on the guitar, Gary Husband on the drums, synths as well as the acoustic and electric pianos and Hadrien Feraus on the bass. The track starts off with its signature melody that it repeats throughout the single, followed by harmonies of the same melody.

“A Soul in Time” is a relatively short track compared to the length of the tracks characteristic to the genre of Jazz. As an improvisational form, it is difficult to look at jazz songs with the same structural expectations as one would look at other forms or genres of tracks, however it segregates time within the song to three instruments – acoustic keys, horn and bass guitar to have their time at the spotlight while other instruments serve as supporting acts.

The high-pitched acoustic keys are quick with their flow while the horn is loud, consistent, sultry and sexy. The melody of the horn has a sense of love and longing filled into it. The bass is subtle yet extremely groovy and, in the juxtaposition, lies its beauty. While the percussion is light, it acts as the backbone of the track that ends by coming back to the core melody one last time.
