Embark on a reflective, psychedelic prog rock trip with Near Earth Objects’s latest opus, ‘I am the Echo’

Near Earth Objects, or NEO as they prefer to be known, are a recording rock band from Cumbria in the UK. As a seasoned group of songwriters and musicians, they love to write all their own music, delivering a range of old-school prog rock, alternative rock and blues/rock style music.

‘I am the Echo’ unfolds with an ethereal, patient grace. One that immediately gives you a sense of NEO’s refined, nuanced rock sensibilities. The vocals, gently melodic, wax poetic in deep reflection. Building tension gradually, synth tones swell, elevating the opus to another level, transitioning beautifully forward.

The chorus is a sublime moment of self-dissolution and transcendence. ‘I am the echo, of what my life could be’ the vocals reflect amidst a dynamic guitar-led arrangement. It’s compelling and captivating without ever being overwhelming. Instead, it reads like the soundtrack to ultimate self-realization, flowing on soulful, expressive melody and rhythm.

The highlight of ‘I am the Echo’ first appears just past the two-minute mark, when the electric guitar really comes to life, in breathtaking fashion, interspersed brilliantly between chorus renditions. This is where we’re immediately reminded of some of David Gilmour’s heavenly solo sections; this one comes pretty close to equaling those in emotion and melody.

NEO is a group that brings an intuitive, assuring, explorative approach that makes us feel that prog rock is very much alive! They invite the listener to reflect on deeper perspectives with ease; “I am the Echo’ is a beautiful track to listen to in solitude with time to spare and visions to see.
