‘no ordinary fish – I Wonder’ is a blusy, hypnotic, indie rock ballad that draws you in like the low tide and keeps you grooving. This ain’t no ordinary track.

Set to an improvisational tone of a lounge bar atmosphere, the track immediately transports us to intrigue. From the first lines, ‘You walked into the room,….And I wonder just whats going on….’ there is an unfolding something ominuous and potentially dramatic. The bluesy, minor chord-driven, guitar arrangments add to tension and anticipation. Its quite gripping really.

Written from point of view of a woman who follows her partner into a place and sees him with another woman. This, ofcourse brings up her insecurities. But she soon realises that shes undoubtedly is ‘the best you ever had’. On confronting him, he doesn’t really own up to his faults, making the woman further doubt the authenticity of this connection. This exchange is beautifully lyrisized by Debbie & Stu’s harmonizing vocals.

Musically, the track is masterfully composed and produced and feels like gliding through a jazzy good time. Eclectic guitars sections and a steady drum rhythm moves the track along at a comfortable pace. Around the 2 min mark, the track picks up pace and goes up a few notches, transitioning into a strong guitar solo. It concludes altogether satisfactorily, with Debbie getting the last words in.

‘no ordinary fish – I Wonder’ is a special experience and undoubtedly would sound great played live. Stream it on Spotify here:
