Christian Rockers One-way delivers a blistering debut track, ‘Breakdown’!
Led by singer/songwriter Dustin Burkhard, Oneway’s music is meant to convey one crucial lesson: Whatever may be the problems/obstacles you’re facing in your life, whatever depths of depression, anxiety or addiction you find yourself in, there’s only one way out: To have faith and pray to the Lord Jesus Christ.
‘Breakdown’ rides strong on thunderous rock riffs atmospherics and cinematics builds deliciously and explodes like something you’d expect to hear from Korn or Deftones. Gripping rhythm riffs and wicked lead lines make for a compelling intro that sets the tone for redemption and surrender.
Dustin’s raw growls bare it all, realizing that he doesn’t have to fight this fight by himself anymore. He shares in a deeply personal tone the extent of his fragile existence, teetering on the edge of total collapse. Sick and tired of being sick and tired, his words convey an anguish and despair of being unable to fix himself, unable to resist the demons.
Hopeful, prayer-like words continue upon a dark cinematic alt rock soundscape. Strong female vocals add another dimension to Dustin’s outpouring, seeking shelter and guidance from a higher power.
‘Breakdown’ moves with tremendous tenacity and tension. As the title suggests, Oneway seeks to convey the depths of pain and suffering they’ve endured through their sinful ways and are now desperate for a divine power to come and make things better. Over its 4 min runtime, we’re plunged into a dark, brooding soundscape, amplified by vicious riffs and basslines.
However, Oneway gives glimpses of hope and surrender. It comes out as a relief for not having to hide and cover up the pain behind fake smiles and finally having the courage to admit defeat. Hopeful acoustic strings lead the outro, leaving you feeling just enough of hope that things could get better. One day at a time.
