PawnShop Motel releases a thrilling, evocative alt-rock anthem, ‘Under Neon Signs’
The Denver duo delivers a track that thrills and compels you to listen and rock along to. This is for those who come alive after dark, or rather choose to push the boundaries of life and go too far with nowhere left to go.
Pulsating atmospherics, intense layers of distortion and reverb launch us into driving basslines and crashing drums, setting the stage for an unfiltered confession. The vocals, urgent and painfully vulnerable, “Ive been bailing on my sleep, Staying up with buzzer screen, while my thoughts run rampant….”
The words are deeply personal yet relatable. For anyone who’s ever felt lost, unstable or had to deal with difficult experiences. Ones that we unfortunately bring upon ourselves. The track drives into an explosive chorus section; the title refrain is sung with a deep hurt, ‘Under the neon signs, I just waste my time…’
Whats compelling is this track’s sublime instrumentation and structure. The vocal tone and tempo match the stirring instrumentation in a way that feels compelling and engaging.
Around halfway in, the guitars launch into a celestial, stirring solo, a tight riff swirling through deep reverbs. Its an incredible crescendo before we rock back into the chorus.
Matt & Stew, the forces behind PawnShop Motel understand just what makes a deeply personal, sonically captivating rock track. Fusing punk, blues and rock to deliver a soundscape thats nostalgic and electric. Just like those neon signs.
